We are in Liberty Missouri, (Kansas City) working with a food/clothing distribution ministry called Liberty Disaster Relief/The Church of Liberty. It’s been a learning curve for sure. We have about 15 people here, some are needy and recovering from hardships and others are just plain old here because God called them to the ministry. I have found a niche with the children of the community. Just in this little set of townhouses there are around 65 kids (multi cultured - including a muslim family). Some people refer to this as the “Ghetto of Liberty” and I would say that is mostly because it is the cheapest housing available. Samual and Navontae are two of my little buddies, 7 and 8. They have lots of questions about the Lord and live in a home with 3 families - a total of 11 kids and 3 adults. This is typical!
LDR has a connection with a local food bank called Harvesters, and they supply our food pantry with everything from Gatorade to frozen foods. The gatorade is a great opening to bring the kids over. We keep everything in the two garages of our townhouses, and when it’s warm out we open the doors and let the kids come get drinks. We have been encouraging the kids to come with Bible verses memorized and giving them candy, but it’s not a hard fast rule, just a cool deal. (Trying to stay away from bribery at the same time as discouraging the “everything is free” mentality). Anyway, things are going great, the ministry is growing more and more every day. We just picked up 6000 pounds of gatorade this week! We are still in the process of preparing for Uganda, though we do not have a specific date yet. (Still looking at very near future). Anthony’s Dad receives our mail and deposits the checks into our Uganda fund right now. We know that when the Lord is ready to send us it will all fall into place. Meanwhile, we are just working to hear his voice every day. We sold everything in Canada to allow us mobility. This week we purchased two used bicycles to use while we are here, and they seem like they will be a very big blessing in the coming weeks.
Lots of Love from us and the Father,
Anthony and Mary
